FROM STAFF REPORTS
Florida Atlantic University’s department of music will present
a concert with the “Dueling Divas” Saturday, Feb. 9 at
8 p.m. in the University Theatre on the Boca Raton campus.
Known for their unique look at the world of opera, Wendy Reynolds
and Birgit Fioravante will present, as they put it, a “respectfully
irreverent musical revue on the seriously funny spectacle of opera.”
General admission tickets are $15, and FAU students, faculty, staff
and alumni may obtain free admission with ID. Tickets may be purchased
by calling 800-564-9539, by visiting www.fauevents.com, or at the
door two hours prior to the event.
Reynolds and Fioravante, both classically-trained opera singers,
bring the behind-the-scenes world of opera to center stage. “Several
years ago we came up with the idea of doing something a little different
than the usual vocal concert of opera highlights and show tunes,”
said Reynolds. “So we added characters, storyline and comedy
to create the operatic revue ‘Duelling Divas.’”
The divas are joined by pianist Heather Coltman, chairwoman of the
department of music at FAU.
The concert is presented by the department of music in the School
of the Arts in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and
Letters.
