Rebecca Reports

Friday, it was back to the Caldwell Theatre for opening night of “Doubt: A Parable.” There is no doubt in my mind that director, Michael Hall and leading lady Pat Nesbit will be nominated for Carbonell Awards! After the play, board member and benefactor Madelyn Savarick hosted a champagne reception in the glittering foyer. Savarick’s latest donation named the new theater’s stage, the Madelyn Savarick stage.

Saturday was beautification day at the newly opened and super cool, Envy Nail Bar. Owner, Kathleen Elizabeth Wolter is a good friend of Jamie Monaco who told her the space next to Salon Monaco was vacant so she made the decision to open a new-style nail bar next door. Now her clients can get hair done and his clients can get nails done--clever idea. This little piece of Federal Highway, known as Mizner West, is fast becoming

Boca’s “Beauty Row”!

Talking of beauty--Forbes Magazine reported Miami tied for the third "vainest" city in America, with 5.2 plastic surgeons per 100,000 citizens who spent $2,786,883 on cosmetics and $12,241,260 on skin care. They beat us!

But Miami doesn’t have its own fragrance-now we do! “Tropical Breeze”, the new fragrance for men comes from Betsy Vazquez de Rincon’s Boca-based Julius Air company. The family owned business was founded in 2006 and this is its first fragrance. So if you still need a fun holiday gift idea, you’ll find the fragrance at www.tropicalbreezefragrance.com.

Saturday evening, was Palm Beach Opera’s spectacular season premiere of Puccini’s Chinese masterpiece, “Turandot,” at the Kravis Center. After standing ovations, cast, crew and guests drove over to City Cellar in CityPlace where Overtures, Young Friends of Palm Beach Opera, hosted the official cast party. The opera’s charming artistic director Bruno Aprea and Overtures Co-Chair Victoria Pollingue and her husband Eugene, welcomed over a 100 people to the late night eaterie. If you’re young and like opera, joining Overtures would be well worth the drive north! Call 561-835-7568 for details.

Looking ahead toTuesday. You can catch up on your holiday shopping and have fun at Boca Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Auction at the Boca Marriott. The evening features live and silent auctions and champion auctioneer, Matthew Green. Hot items include: two nights at the Boca Raton Resort, Miami Heat Tickets, two nights at the PGA National Resort Spa, a 1 hour Discovery Flight in a Cessna 172sp and a Florida Panthers Center Ice Sky Box. Maybe they could add seven days at Spa Palazzo—I’d definitely bid on that!

Then dash over to FAU for violin virtuoso Gareth Johnson and pianist, Heather Coltman’s, performance in the University Theater at 8 p.m. The program includes, Tango No. 3 by Astor Piazzolla and John Williams’ theme from Schindler’s List, and “Devil’s Dance” from The Witches of Eastwick. Call 1-800-564-9539 for tickets.

And that is life in Boca…
