Rebecca Reports

Friday, I was a guest at a Boca Bacchanal Vintner Dinner hosted by Malinda and Peter Baronoff at the couple’s Woodfield home. Which, it turned out, was perfectly suited to the occasion. There were 41 of us were seated outdoors beside the swimming pool with a view of the Baronoff’s glass-walled kitchen (so we could watch John Tesar, executive chef of world renowned Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, slave way without fear of guilt!) The food was excellent as were the wines from Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey Vineyards. At 9 p.m. a second wave of guests arrived, including city council candidate Al Travasos.
Sunday morning I was back at Boca West for the FAU University Club “Islands in the Sun” fundraiser. Boca Raton News publisher Craig Swill and his wife, Lisa, were honorary advisers. The charming Regina Vetto was committee chair. We were entertained by husband and wife MFA students, Rebecca Simon and Trent Blanford, who we’d seen singing dancing and acting in last year’s summer rep. This year’s summer rep program, I’m pleased to say, includes “Evita”--one of my favorite musicals and “Carousel”--everybody’s favorite musical!
That evening, continuing the performing arts theme I was at the Caldwell Theater for its latest production, “Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh.” The theater’s 2008 Summer Season includes the return of the popular Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “Doubt:a Parable” which returns with its original cast. Those of you who missed its premiere should definitely catch it this time around! Zany comedy, Beau Jest, closes the season. Sounds like another perfectly timed Caldwell farce!
Monday, I met with representatives of Ivanka Trump’s Jewelry Collection. The team was in town for Palm Beach Fashion Week and a trunk show and a trunk show at Delray’s Spa Eleven. Not content with a full time job with her father’s real estate corporation or starring on his hit show, The Apprentice, this savvy business woman has launched her own collection of diamond jewelry, in partnership with Dynamic Diamond Corporation. More boutiques are planned. Palm Beach is being considered but the big money is on gambling, and now shopping mecca, Las Vegas!
Wednesday was the launch of the Red Cross 2008 “Heroes” fundraising campaign at Old Calypso in Delray Beach. This year’s campaign target is $200,000. Call 561-833-7711 or visit www.redcross-pbc.org to find out how you can be a Hero!
Thursday was the Red Cross South County Angels’ Mad Hatter’s luncheon honoring Henrietta Countess de Hoernle. Proud grandmother Marjorie Grande told me 14-year-old Ariana Grande has been chosen for a new Broadway musical, “13.” Fellow Boca resident, Aaron Gross also made the cast. Congratulations to both!
And that is life in Boca…
