ELSE (GOLDSCHMIDT) MENDEL
BOCA RATON

Else (Goldschmidt) Mendel , 92, of Boca Raton, FL passed away on March 20, 2008.  Mrs. Mendel was born March 17, 1916 in Germany and came to the United States in 1937.  She married Eric Mendel, to whom she had become engaged in Germany, on January 30, 1938 in Haverstraw, NY. Else worked at various jobs in New York until her son Alan was born in 1944.  In 1953 the family moved to Ila, GA and opened a sewing plant making women’s and children’s clothing. She worked in the business for a number of years, even after they moved to Athens, GA in 1957.  Else and Eric moved to Stratford Court, a retirement community in Boca Raton, FL in 1994.  She has been a member of the Congregation Children of Israel since 1953 and an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital until she moved to Florida.  She was also an avid bridge player. She is survived by son Alan and daughter in law Jean of Vashon, WA, and grandchildren Amanda Carrubba and her husband Kevin of Vashon, WA and David Mendel of Boston, MA.  She was predeceased by her husband Eric and brother Werner Goldschmidt.
