HAROLD N. WEINERG
Harold N. Weinberg, 78, died peacefully in Indianapolis on February 21, 2008. Harold was born in Miami, Florida on December 24, 1929 to Harry and Sadie Weinberg. He attended Miami Senior High School and the University of Florida where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Engineering in 1951. He was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. Harold is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sondra, and two children and their spouses – Jamie and Bob Andree, and Brad Weinberg and Betty Routledge. Harold is also survived by four grandsons – Barry, Sam, and Matthew Weinberg, and Casey Andree. Harold served in the Army Transportation Corps as a first lieutenant during the Korean War where he was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia. He served in Alaska and shared responsibility for bringing a convoy up the Alaskan Highway in winter. He started his career as an engineer with Esso Research and Engineering in New Jersey and then Exxon. He retired from Exxon as a General Manager of Corporate Research in 1987 with major responsibility for initiating and progressing science-based innovations. After retiring from Exxon, he became a Vice President of Englehardt Corporation. Harold is credited as the inventor of three different refining processes. He also taught at Seton Hall University. Harold was a member of the NJ Technological Advisory Board, the NJ Research and Development Council, and the Governor’s Task Force on Improving NJ’s Economic and Regulatory Climate. He also served as the Chairman of the NJ Energy Research Institute. Harold was an avid golfer and handball player. He and Sondra traveled extensively on five continents for business and pleasure. He will long be remembered for his generous spirit, outsize personality and sense of humor, and his love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeane Kaplan. A funeral service was held Sunday, February 24 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center – Washington Park North in Indianapolis with visitation to begin at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
