Published May 12th, 2008

FROM STAFF REPORTS

U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-District 19, will sponsor a reception today at 4 p.m. to showcase submissions for the 2008 Congressional Arts Competition. It will be held in the Gallery Center at 608 Banyan Trail in Boca Raton.

This annual competition allows every member of Congress to select a piece of artwork produced by a high school student within the district to hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.

At today’s event, Wexler will present the winner of the 2008 competition with two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C.  The chosen student will travel to Congress and attend seminars with other high schoolers from across the country.

All submissions from area high schools will be on display at the Gallery Center's Elaine Baker Gallery and Habitat Galleries from noon to 4 pm.  Judges of the artwork will be Elaine Baker of the Elaine Baker Gallery, Linda Boone from the Habitat Gallery and Lisa Fiorello from the Karen Lynne Gallery.
