FROM STAFF REPORTS
Florida Atlantic University’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center is currently hosting “The Brain’s Gain Workshop,” a six-week memory loss prevention program that teaches participants ways to build cognitive reserve and protect their brains through active strategies and lifestyle choices.
Several different sessions of the workshop will be offered during day and evening hours throughout the summer at the Memory and Wellness Center on the FAU campus in Boca Raton.
Designed by Anna Lisa Curtis, an FAU honors scholar studying psychology and multimedia journalism, the workshop will include a variety of lecturers such as “Memory Function and Strategies” by FAU doctoral candidate Jason Grostuss, “Memory and Emotion” by Dr. Denise Sparks, and “Exercise and Brain Growth” by Kim Pace, an injury, prevention and performance enhancement specialist who holds a master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion.
Daily actions for brain health will be discussed, implemented and supported.
“We are all losing it,” said Curtis. “Our brain matter begins to diminish in our 20s and 30s. While this is the normal aging process, current research highlights ways to protect the brain from age-related degeneration.”
“In the same way science has shown us how to prevent muscle and bone loss, it turns out there are things we can do to build cognitive reserve,” he said. “The earlier you begin the better.”
Cost for the workshop is $95, and space is limited. For information, dates and times, call 561-297-0502.
