Palm Beach County commissioners have approved relocation of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) aided health care facility from 4560 and 4570 Lantana Road in Lake Worth to 9060 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens.

Commissioners had previously approved $150,000 in CDBG funds for MD Now Medical Centers, Inc., for the purchase/installation of specialized equipment and an emergency generator at the Lake Worth site.

In the meantime, commissioner said MD Now “could not negotiate an affordable lease for a specific building” at the Lake Worth location, but did meet the CDBG economic set-aside program requirements in securing a long-term lease at the Palm Beach Gardens location.  MD Now is also located adjacent to the “marginal" (10 percent-15 percent poverty) area of the development regions, said commissioners.

MD Now is an urgent care and medical walk-in center that provides affordable care to patients less likely to have a family physician and/or health insurance, said commissioners. The first is slated to open at it new location in September.

Other Business

In other recent business commissioners:

  • Approved release of a utility easement on land owned by GKK – Hagen Ltd. The Water Utilities Department has determined that this easement is no longer needed, said commissioners.
  • Approved transfer of a platted Access Control Easement (ACE) on the south line of Tract A to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), giving FDOT control of an ACE abutting the Beeline Highway at Steeplechase Drive.
  • Amended an interlocal agreement with the Village of Royal Palm Beach for landscaping improvements to Royal Palm Beach Boulevard from Okeechobee Boulevard, extending the completion deadline by one year to September 30.  Commissioners said the original agreement provided $400,000 in reimbursement fundsf or landscaping improvements to Royal Palm Beach Boulevard from Okeechobee Boulevard to 40th Street.
Approved a $52,000 transfer in the Northlake Boulevard Improvement Fund from the reserve account to contributions to other governmental agencies account, for payment to the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District.  Commissioners explained that estimated impact fees budgeted in reserve accounts cannot be appropriated until funds have been collected.  This budget transfer allows for the appropriation of collected impact fees, which then allows the county, to remit funds to the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District in accordance with the impact fee agreement.
