FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Florida Board of Governors has appointed Anthony Barbar, Class of 1978, to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees.
He replaces former Trustees Chairman Norman Tripp, who left after being named to the Board of Governors.
The trustees, a 13-member group, are responsible for making policy decisions appropriate to the university’s mission, implementing and maintaining high-quality education programs, measuring performance, reporting information and providing input regarding state policy, budgeting and education standards.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the Board of Trustees of my alma mater, on behalf of Florida and the Board of Governors,” said Barbar. “I’m looking forward to this new role, as well as the opportunity to work with the other Board of Trustee members and the administration in continuing the university’s successes into the future.”
Barbar is the president of Barbar & Associates, LLC, and leads all aspects of the licensed real estate brokerage firm. He currently oversees the real estate needs of numerous corporate clients and provides consulting services, as well as evaluates companies’ needs, investment strategies, site selections, planning, relocation and commercial leasing transactions for an array of major South Florida companies.
The new trustee was considered one of the youngest executives to be involved in the acquisition, planning, designing, financing, development and sales of large upscale residential communities. He also has been involved in the assembling and planning of a major commercial mixed-used project.
Barbar serves on a number of community and civic organizations, including the Realtors Association of the Palm Beaches, Florida Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, International Council of Shopping Centers, Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, Sheridan House Family Ministries and Boca Raton Community Church.
Barbar earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from Florida Atlantic University. He is the former president of the FAU National Alumni Association.
He also serves on the Palm Beach Atlantic University Board of Trustees and is the director of Student Leadership University in Orlando.
