Summer meals for kids deal signed

Nationwide, and when schools close the doors for summer vacation, over 12 million poor children who qualify to receive a free or reduced price lunch during the academic year stop getting those meals. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves about 27 million meals on a given day; just over half of these meals are served free or at a reduced price

As such, Palm Beach County commissioners have signed an $822,576 agreement with the Florida Department of Education (DOE) for participation in a summer food service meals for children program.

This program funds approximately 60 sites where meals will be provided to children 18 years and younger – and who otherwise would be receiving food in school.

Commissioners said the sites would provide 2,075 breakfasts; 3,947 lunches; and 2,112 snacks daily during the summer months – through August 15.

Other Business

In other recent business commissioners:

  • Amended an agreement with The Gordian Group, Inc to provide professional services required to implement the Job Ordering Contract (JOC) system to facilitate renovation, repair, and/or maintenance improvement projects.  The amendment increases the contract’s maximum value from $355,000 to $504,000, said commissioners.
  • Extended a contract by one year with Gentile Holloway O’Mahoney and Associates, Inc., to provide professional consulting services for property development evaluations.
Approved a task order contract with Cotleur and Hearing, Inc. to provide property development evaluation services on a continuing contract basis for Facilities Development and Operations Department projects. Commissioners said the contract was needed to provide planning, engineering, and related consulting services for Facilities Development and Operations Department efforts to evaluate the developability of existing county-owned property and potential land acquisition parcels.  Consultant fees will be negotiated on a task order basis, said commissioners. Approved also was a contract with Kilday and Associates, Inc. on the same basic terms and service requirements.
